THE COACH

Coaching philosophy

All of us, at one time or another, have had the experience of “situational tunnel vision” – of seeing a situation as having only one solution or only one interpretation. Many of us have experienced an “a-ha” moment when we looked at the same situation from a different perspective and saw something entirely different. The coaching I do with my clients provides them with different perspectives that enable them to see:

  • the bigger picture
  • a new solution
  • a whole lot of new solutions!
  • an interpretation that feels better
  • ways to get unstuck
  • opportunities that didn’t exist before.

I believe the “a-ha” moment comes when blocks are removed, things that keep us in one place, looking in only one direction. Often my perspectives are merely catalysts for my clients to discover entirely new perspectives that neither of us alone could see. Once we see how many more possibilities there are, the coaching takes on a new and exciting dynamic.

Business philosophy

I believe there are at least 4 key ingredients for a successful business:

  • attention to finances (top line and bottom line),
  • internal and external customer focus,
  • the right people performing the right jobs at the right time in the right location, and
  • a desire to give back to the community.

The attention to finances includes where the revenue is coming from and how expenses are managed, in addition to how much is coming is and how much is left over at the end of the year. Internal and external customer focus includes staying in tune with changes in the market place and making sure we are delivering what our customers want, not what we think they want. Sometimes our attention is so focused on our external customers that we neglect our internal customers. Internal and external communication, effective communication, will go a long way to satisfying all of our customers. Insuring we have the right people matched not only to the business needs but also to their strengths is also vital to our business success. And giving back to the community is a wonderful expression of thankfulness.

How the process works

I request a complimentary consultation with all new clients, and this is performed over the telephone or in person. This session may last from 30 to 60 minutes and will be chance for us to better determine if we will be a good match. I will ask a lot of questions, and will give you as much time as you need to also ask questions. Within 2 days of our consultation, I will send you a brief proposal regarding the coaching, including what I believe your desired outcomes are, the process we will follow, the length of time, and the fees. If you are in agreement, we will move to the actual coaching. If you want to modify the proposal, you will have the opportunity to do so. When we both agree on the work to be performed, we will move to the actual coaching.

There may be times that I will include assessments in our coaching. These may be assessments I have developed or assessments created by others, including the DISC and the PIAV. I will always share the results with you and spend as much time as we need to discussing them. Throughout the coaching I will ask for “pulse checks” – making sure we are still on the right path and that you are receiving the value you expected.
